Lord, Thank You For The Spirit and the Fruit of Self Control!

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is now law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:22-26

Lord,

We’ve been having some hard times controlling ourselves lately. We need You!

Thank You that Your Holy Spirit is set inside each of us, even our 4 year old, so that we can ask that Spirit for guidance and help when we need more control.

On this Mother’s day, Lord, I’m thinking of how much I wish to be more like YOU! I want to show my children so much grace and love and favor that they choose to do their best, to help, to be responsible, because they see how much we love them and they want to return some of it. I heard a pastor say that there’s no more fulltime ministry than Motherhood, and I feel the weight of that.

I want to be a Mother who is helping to lead her children straight back to You, their Creator.

Thank You that You are this shining example of constant grace and mercy. You love me so well that I just ache to return some good to You through reverence, through honoring You, through seeking to do what You would have me do in the world. I see that You want what’s best for me, and when I live more like You say I should, things go right.

What a wonderful Mother I would be if I could harness that same kind of attitude of love and grace and mercy towards my children! If I could listen to You so well that the advice I give them is real wisdom that they can count on to improve their lives. Bring me closer to that ideal, Lord, through Your Spirit!

Help us, as a family, Lord, experience more of Your Spirit in our hearts and in this house!

We know, Lord, that You moved us here by direction of the Spirit and You put us in a church that is a lively lampstand for YOU! We know You are able to draw us into more use for Your Kingdom, so that we can fill that part of our hearts which aches to try and give back a bit of what You so freely gave us. Please, do, Lord!

Lord, help the Mothers today, and the Fathers too. Help those of us who are trying so hard to do what is right for those we love. May we remember that what we know is right, is what You say is right. You are the only authority over good and evil. May we cling to the fact that You gave us a manual, and that’s not all, You gave us a Spirit that will help us know and control ourselves in the direction You are leading us.

I am so amazed, so grateful, for a God who supplies all I need, for self control, for Motherhood, and for life!
